During the Qingming holiday in 2026, the total number of cross-regional personnel movements in the whole society reached 842.695 million, with an average of 280.898 million per day, an increase of 5.6 over the same period in 2025. In terms of transportation mode, railway passenger traffic volume 57.79 million, an increase of 8.4 percent over the same period last year; highway passenger traffic volume 775.54 million, an increase of 5.4 percent over the same period last year; waterway passenger traffic volume 3.677 million, an increase of 8.4 percent over the same period last year; and civil aviation passenger traffic volume 5.688 million, an increase of 1.6 percent over the same period last year. On the last day of the holiday (April 6), there was a return peak, with 275.892 million people moving across regions, up 3.5 per cent from the previous month and 5.7 per cent from the same period last year. Railway passenger traffic increased significantly by 41.7 percent month-on-month, civil aviation passenger traffic increased by 26.2 percent month-on-month, while waterway passenger traffic decreased by 23 percent month-on-month due to the end of the holiday. The data reflects the strong demand for travel during the Qingming holiday, mainly visiting relatives, sweeping and short-distance travel, and the overall operation of the comprehensive transportation system is stable and orderly.
