Colombian Business Community Calls for Expanding Agricultural Exports to Asia

According to a report by Colombia's newspaper La Republica on August 26, Diaz, president of the National Foreign Trade Association of Colombia, stated that the country should make expanding agricultural exports to Asia an important goal and develop a dedicated export roadmap.

Diaz noted that Colombia's mining and energy exports have been recovering in recent years, driven largely by rising international commodity prices. In contrast, the agricultural and manufacturing sectors that once drove Colombia's export growth are currently experiencing declines. Reversing this trend will become an important task for export policy.

He emphasized that Colombia still has significant potential in agricultural exports, particularly in the Asian market. As Asian countries undergo rapid urbanization, large numbers of people formerly engaged in agricultural production are shifting to manufacturing and technology industries, leading to sustained growth in Asia's demand for imported food. Colombia should seize the opportunity and continue to develop relevant markets.
