Shanghai Communication Center 818 Channel Single Sideband Examines and Strengthens the Commercial Fishing Protection "Safety Net"
With the East China Sea "opening up for fishing," the ship traffic in the East China Sea region has surged, increasing the risk of collisions between commercial and fishing vessels. Recently, the East China Sea Navigation Service Center Shanghai Communication Center, in addition to its routine measures such as joint duty with the Shanghai Maritime Bureau for collision prevention and intelligent vessel verification calls, has implemented single-sideband verification for commercial and fishing vessels on Channel 818, strengthening the maritime safety barrier.
As an internationally recognized ship-to-shore communication frequency, Channel 818 offers medium and long-distance communication capabilities. During the verification process, duty officers carry out "active calling, individual verification, and dynamic recording" to operate a "roll call" management of passing vessels, reviving the old frequency with "new vitality" in the modern era of maritime governance.
Since the testing began on September 9th, the center has deployed a total of 18 personnel for monitoring tasks, using Channel 818 to verify 170 vessels across three types of scenarios: invitation testing, shore-to-ship calls, and ship-to-shore calls. This includes 18 invitation tests with 12 successful calls; 87 shore-to-ship tests with 7 successful calls; and 65 ship-to-shore tests, with all connections successfully established. These strings of data have collectively woven an invisible "safety net."
