Supporting Shanghai in Elevating Its Shipping Service Capabilities: Gong Zheng Meets with the Head of the Baltic International Maritime Council

On March 18, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Paul Patty, Chairman of the Baltic International Maritime Council, and David Rossley, CEO and Secretary-General.

Gong Zheng welcomed the Baltic International Maritime Council's global executive committee meeting held in Shanghai. He said that accelerating the construction of the "Five Centers" is the main direction for Shanghai to promote high-quality development. We are focusing on enhancing the resource allocation capacity of the international shipping center, consolidating the position of the global sea and air hub port, intensifying the development of high-end shipping services, and continuously promoting the digital, intelligent, and green transformation of shipping. The development strategy of the Baltic International Maritime Council is highly aligned with the goals and vision of the Shanghai International Shipping Center. We hope to strengthen cooperation between the two parties and look forward to the council helping Shanghai enhance its shipping service capabilities, launching more "Shanghai Contracts" and "Shanghai Rules," and promoting more digital, intelligent, and green shipping achievements to be implemented in Shanghai. At the same time, we hope the council will exert its influence to help Shanghai further participate in international shipping governance, support Chinese shipping enterprises to "go global" and international shipping enterprises to "come in," and promote Shanghai to strengthen two-way interaction with global partners and better integrate into the global shipping governance system.

Patty and Rossley said that Shanghai is an important global international shipping center, and we have cooperated sincerely with Shanghai for many years. The new office of the council is also inaugurated in Shanghai this time. Looking to the future, we will continue to support the construction of the Shanghai International Shipping Center, promote the development of high-end shipping services, jointly promote the digitalization of maritime trade and the green development of shipping, help Chinese shipping to have more voice, and look forward to achieving new cooperation results.

The Baltic International Maritime Council is one of the largest and most influential international shipping organizations in the world and is also one of the earliest international shipping organizations to settle in Shanghai.
