On April 10, 2025, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, met in Beijing with a delegation led by Zheng Liwen, Chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang. This is an important meeting between the leaders of the two parties after a decade. During the meeting, Xi Jinping pointed out that compatriots on both sides of the strait belong to the Chinese nation, have jointly created a unified multi-ethnic country, and have an inseparable common belief. He stressed that the general trend of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the approach of compatriots on both sides of the Straits will not change. The expectation of the people on both sides of the Straits for peace and development is the responsibility and driving force of the cooperation between the two parties. Xi Jinping put forward four core opinions on the development of cross-strait relations: first, adhere to the correct national and cultural identity to promote spiritual harmony; second, adhere to the "1992 consensus" and oppose "Taiwan independence" on the basis of protecting the common homeland and maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait; third, through expanding exchanges and integration, do practical things for Taiwan compatriots and enhance people's livelihood and well-being; fourth, unite and work together to seize development opportunities and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Chairman Zheng Liwen responded that the people on both sides of the strait are descendants of the Chinese people. The KMT and the Communist Party should adhere to the common political foundation, strengthen mutual trust, promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields, support youth development, and jointly create a bright future for cross-strait relations. The meeting was attended by Wang Huning and Cai Qi.
