Straw
Straw is the stalk and leaves remaining after harvesting the grains from crops (such as rice, wheat, and corn), serving as an important roughage resource. It is rich in structural carbohydrates like cellulose and hemicellulose. Although its nutritional value is low, it provides necessary physical stimulation and a sense of satiety for ruminants, promoting rumen health and normal cud-chewing. In animal husbandry, straw is commonly used in combination with concentrates to reduce overall feed costs. Furthermore, its digestibility and palatability can be improved through treatments like ammoniation or ensiling. Straw can also be used as biomass fuel or bedding material in livestock barns.
