oxacillin sodium
Appearance: White powder or crystalline powder, odorless or slightly odorless. It is soluble in water, very slightly soluble in acetone or butanol, and almost insoluble in ethyl acetate or petroleum ether. The pH value of a 2% aqueous solution is 5.0-7.0.
Pharmacological effects:
Pharmacology: It is a semi synthetic acid and enzyme resistant imidazole penicillin that is not hydrolyzed by penicillinase and is effective against enzyme producing Staphylococcus aureus strains, with a MIC of 0.4 µ g/mL. However, the antibacterial activity against non enzyme producing strains and Gram positive cocci such as L-group hemolytic streptococcus and pneumococcus is weaker than penicillin, and Enterococcus faecalis is resistant to this product.
Pharmacokinetics: After oral administration to monogastric animals, it can be partially absorbed from the intestine, and food can reduce its absorption rate and quantity. After intramuscular injection, the absorption is rapid, and the blood concentration reaches its peak at 0.5 hours, but cannot be measured after 6 hours. It can penetrate most tissues and body fluids, mainly excreted through the kidneys, and a small amount is excreted from the feces through bile.
Function and Application: Mainly used for infections caused by penicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, such as sepsis, pneumonia, mastitis, burn wound infections, etc.
Usage and dosage: Intramuscular injection, once per kg body weight, 10-15mg for horses, cows, sheep, and pigs, 15-20mg for dogs and cats, 2-3 times a day, for 2-3 consecutive days.
Precautions:
1. After mixing with aminoglycoside antibiotics, the antibacterial activity of both can be significantly reduced, so they cannot be administered in the same container.
2. Combination therapy with ampicillin or gentamicin can enhance the antibacterial activity against enterococci.
3. In intravenous injection, this product is incompatible with gentamicin, oxytetracycline, tetracycline, etc.
4. Combined use with probenecid can increase and prolong the blood drug concentration of this product.
