Buffalo

Buffalo (scientific name: Bubalus): A genus of animals in the order Artiodactyls of the mammal family Bovis. Buffalo has thick skin and extremely underdeveloped sweat glands. When it is hot, it needs to be soaked in water to dissipate heat, hence the name Buffalo. The body is strong and has sparse coat, mostly gray and black; the horns are thick and flat and curved rearward; the hooves are large, solid and resistant to immersion. The knee joints and ball joints are flexible to move, allowing them to walk freely in the mud; Buffalo auricles are relatively short, the head and forehead are long and narrow, the midline of the back faces forward, and the back slopes backward and downward. There are 4 types of horns that are relatively slender. There are only about 4000 wild buffaloes in the world, and they are being seriously polluted by the genes of domestic buffaloes. Mindoro buffalo are distributed on Mindoro Island in the Philippines, with only about 200 remaining; mountain buffaloes and lowland buffaloes are distributed in Indonesia's Solawesi Islands, and their numbers are also rare. The three are small and were once placed separately in the genus Anoa. The World Conservation Union (IUCN) has incorporated both genera into the "Buffalo genus," indicating that the classification is controversial.
