[Main Ingredients] Oxytetracycline

[Properties] This product is a yellow to light brown clear liquid.

[Pharmacological Actions] Pharmacodynamics: Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic with strong effects on gram-positive bacteria such as staphylococcus, hemolytic streptococcus, bacillus anthracis, clostridium tetani and clostridium difficile, but not as effective as β-lactams. It is sensitive to gram-negative bacteria such as escherichia coli, salmonella, brucellosis and pasteurella, but not as sensitive as aminoglycoside and amphenicol antibiotics. This product also has an inhibitory effect on rickettsia, chlamydia, mycoplasma, spirochetes, actinomycetes and certain protozoa.

[Drug Interaction] ① Simultaneous use with strong diuretics such as furosemide may aggravate impairment of renal function. ②It is a rapid antibacterial drug that can interfere with the bactericidal effect of penicillins on bacteria during their reproductive period, so it is advisable to avoid using them together. ③ Simultaneous use with calcium salts, iron salts or drugs (including Chinese herbal medicines) containing metal ions such as calcium, magnesium, aluminum, bismuth and iron may form insoluble complexes and reduce the absorption of the drug.

[Action and Use] Tetracycline antibiotics. Used for infections caused by certain gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, rickettsia, mycoplasma, etc.

[Dosage and Administration] Intramuscular injection: single dose, 0.11 ~ 0.2ml per 1kg body weight for livestock.

[Adverse Reactions] (1) Local irritation. The hydrochloride aqueous solution of this drug is highly irritating, and intramuscular injection can cause pain, inflammation, and necrosis at the injection site.

(2) Intestinal flora disorder. Tetracyclines have a broad-spectrum inhibitory effect on equine enterobacteriaceae, which can then cause secondary infections by drug-resistant salmonella or unidentified pathogenic bacteria (including clostridium difficile), leading to severe or even fatal diarrhea. This often occurs after high-dose intravenous administration, but may also occur after low-dose intramuscular injection.

(3) Effect on tooth and bone development. After entering the body, tetracyclines will combine with calcium and be deposited in teeth and bones along with calcium. This drug can easily pass through the placenta and enter breast milk, so it is forbidden to use it in pregnant animals, lactating animals and small animals, and milk from lactating cows cannot be sold during the period of medication.

(4) Hepatic and renal damage. This drug has a toxic effect on hepatic and renal cells. Tetracycline antibiotics can cause dose-dependent changes in renal function in a variety of animals.

(5) Anti-metabolic effect. Tetracyclines can cause azotemia, and aggravate it with the presence of steroids. This drug can also cause metabolic acidosis and electrolyte imbalance.

[Precautions] (1) This product should be protected from light, well closed and stored in a cool, dark and dry place. Avoid exposure to sunlight. Do not store the drug with metal containers.

(2) Gastroenteritis may sometimes occur in horses after injection, so this drug should be used with caution.

(3) Do not use when the animal's hepatic and renal functions are severely impaired.
